Know your true cost before you quote.

MillMargin turns a paddy lot into head-rice cost per kg — after broken, bran and husk are credited — and shows your FOB or CFR margin per tonne at the exchange rate you actually get.

Smaller volumes, thinner margins. Guessing costs more than it used to.

Pakistan shipped a quarter less rice last year, and earned a third less for it. When buyers push on price, the mill that knows its cost to the rupee knows how far it can go — and when to walk away.

Three numbers most cost sheets get wrong

Spreadsheets do the sums you tell them to. These are the ones that usually go missing.

Shrinkage and recovery

Moisture loss, stones and dust come off the paddy weight before a single grain is polished. Costing on gross weight flatters every kilo.

2% shrinkage ≈ Rs 4.6/kg

By-product value

Broken, bran and husk are sold. Credit them at today's rates and your head-rice cost drops; ignore them and you quote too high and lose the order.

Rs 3.8m on one lot

The rate you really get

Contract in dollars, pay paddy in rupees. The gap between interbank and what your bank actually credits is margin, and it belongs on the sheet.

Rs 2.2 per $ ≈ $6.4/t

One sheet, in the order a mill works

Each box feeds the next, so a change to the paddy rate or a bag price flows straight through to cost per kg and margin.

Box 01

Input & purchase cost

Each lot that goes into the mill — paddy or rice — with its description, bag size, weight, rate per kg or per 40 kg, and any other charges on it.

Box 02

Processing charges

Milling, labour, cartage, sortex and drying, each charged the way you pay it — per kg in or out, per bag, or as a lump sum.

Box 03

Packing bags & material

Each bag type and its rate. Bags are counted automatically for every finished line of the same size.

Box 04

By-products and finished rice cost

The processing report — finished lines, broken, bran, husk and shrinkage — with each by-product at its own rate, giving head-rice cost per kg and per 40 kg.

Box 05

Export cost — FOB & CFR Pro

Loading, fumigation, transport, port, inspection and freight, with your interbank and open-market rates, giving FOB and CFR per tonne and your margin on each price.

See the margin on a buyer's price before you say yes

Type the price on the enquiry. MillMargin adds what it takes to put the rice on the vessel — or at the buyer's port — and converts at both interbank and open-market rates, so you see the margin you will really bank.

Your figures stay yours

Your rates and costings are stored for your account only. Why MillMargin exists

For years, millers and exporters have called me with the same request: “Can you work out the costing on this lot?” Each call was really a question about method — how to allow for shrinkage, credit the by-products and price in the exchange rate before quoting.

MillMargin is that method, as a sheet any mill can use. You enter your own figures on your own account, and the arithmetic is the same for every mill, large or small. You no longer need to send your numbers to anyone.

Questions mills ask

Does it replace my accounting or ERP?

No. MillMargin does one job: the cost and margin of a lot, before you buy paddy or accept a price. Keep your books where they are.

Which rice does it handle?

Any paddy you process — basmati, 1121, 386, IRRI-6 and others, raw, steamed or sella. You name the finished lines and their sizes; the sheet adapts.

Can I use maunds, kg and tonnes?

Yes. Enter rates per kg or per 40 kg (maund), and charges per kg, per bag or as a lump sum. Cost is shown per kg, per 40 kg and per tonne.

What happens after the 30-day Pro trial?

Your account moves to Free. Your saved costings stay; export costing, Excel and the rate library wait until you choose Pro. Your logo on PDFs starts when you subscribe.

How do I pay for Pro?

In Pakistan, pay in rupees by bank transfer or Raast; outside Pakistan, in dollars. Write to support@millmargin.com and your Pro is switched on the same day. Founding members keep their price for as long as they stay subscribed.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The sheet is built for a phone at the mill gate and a wide screen in the office, and every costing syncs to your account.

Cost your next lot in the time it takes to weigh it.
